TutorialsOpening Template and Theme ZIP Files

ZIP files (also known as Compressed Folders and Zipped Folders) have been around for a long time. If you've never heard of them, think of them as "packages" of files that have been compressed down to make them easier to send online. Since all of our templates are distributed this way, this tutorial will show you how to get them open in Windows and Mac OS X.

If you use Microsoft Windows (XP/Vista/7) ...

  1. Right click on the ZIP file you just downloaded.

  2. Click Extract (or Extract All in some versions of Windows). If necessary, click through the dialogs until you can click Finish.

    w2
  3. You should now see a new folder with a numeric name. Double click on this folder and you'll now be able to access the template or theme's files.

If you use Mac OS X ...

  2. You should now see a new folder with a numeric name. Double click on this folder and you'll now be able to access the template's files.

You're done!

That's all there is to it. If you have a third party compression/unzipping tool installed the steps to do this might be a little different, so be sure to consult its documentation if you run into issues.
